ORA At a Glance

Organization for Rural Advancement (ORA) is a non-profitable and non-government development organization. Current Executive Director, Ad. Fakir Md. Mazharul Islam from Ramnagar Village is the founder and initiator of this organization. It was established on June 01, 1988, at at one interior village named Ramnagar, P.O. Joyka, of Karimganj Upazilla under Kishoreganj District, Bangladesh in response to the long-felt needs of the project area with a view to promoting socio-economic status of the distressed of the powerless people both men and women. The local people, social workers, educationists, and philanthropists supported this organization.

 

Organization For Rural Advancement (ORA) is registered under the Department of Social Welfare Service of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh (Reg No. Kishore-0165), NGO Affairs Bureau under the foreign Donation voluntary Activities Registration Rules, 1978 (Reg No. FD-828), Directorate of Family Planning, under Ministry of Health, People’s Republic of Bangladesh (Reg No. 202/ 06), Micro Credit Regularity Authority (Reg No. 04121-01370-00187), and European Commission (Reg No. BD-2011-AON-3001887494).

 

ORA believes in process-oriented development approach rather than task oriented. ORA thinks that the man is the center for their own developments such as develops their potentialities and capabilities for personal, education, social and other life-oriented developments components for their futures growth and development. In addition, ORA aspires for a society free from oppression, exploitation, and deprivation where every individual will be able to lead a happy and peaceful life by enjoying rightful share of the resources belonging to the society. ORA also stresses to increase self-confidence, self-dignity, justice and fraternity in the process of development endeavors.

Goal, Vision, and Objectives

Goal

Socio economic upliftment of the rural and urban poor people of the project area.

Vision

To empower the distressed and powerless rural people specially for women of the project area with a view to improve their quality of life by mobilizing available resources, especially human, agriculture, livestock, water and more of that nature in establishing their due rights in the society.

Objectives

  • To established the organization for land less rural people (Female & Male)
  • To raise the group fund by savings for making them self-reliant.
  • To provide credit for income and employment generation.
  • To transfer the skills & knowledge on fish culture, Livestock production & Agriculture farming among the rural poor people.
  • To reduce the Food insecurity of the poor & extreme poor people of the flood affected Haor people.
  • To reduce the vulnerability of Health issue by providing health services i.e free medical clinic operation & other Health activities.
  • To improve the water and Sanitation situation within the project area.
  • To increase the literacy rate within the project area.
  • To create awareness on mother & child health care education & nutrition through training and conducting mother session.
  • To promote environment situation of the project area through tree plantation.
  • To increase social status & established the legal rights of the women through public institutions by providing training.
  • To minimize social injustice.
  • To create a positive environment among the rich people about ultra hard-core poor people.
