Disaster Preparedness

Organization for Rural Advancement (ORA) has good work experience on Relief and Rehabilitation & Disaster Preparedness & Management. ORA starts its relief activity from own fund of ORA. Later, in 1998 ORA started Post Flood Rehabilitation activities within the flood affected union of Karimgonj upazila under Kishoreganj District with the financial assistance from the Concern Bangladesh. After that ORA made a Partnership with CARE-Bangladesh for executing the LIFE Project and then Flood Proofing Project & SHOUHARDO Program. During this period, ORA gained wide experience in Relief & Disaster Management activities. The activities are including:

  • Reorganize the Union Disaster Management Committee at fourteen union of three upazila.
  • Organize Disaster Management Training with all UDMC of fourteen union of three upazilas under Kishoreganj district.
  • Recruit 252 union Disaster Volunteer at 14 union of Karimgonj, Tarail & Itna upazila.
  • Provide Disaster Management Basic training & Refreshers training.
  • Prepared and installed Risk & Resource Map for the fourteen union of three upazilas of Kishoreganj district.
  • Prepared a Disaster Preparedness Directory for the Kishoreganj district with all emergency phone numbers and name & designation of responsible person.
  • Provide Rescue Materials i.e Volunteer Dress, Life Jaket, Streator, First Aid Box, Mike and Torch light at fourteen union of three Upazilas.
  • Blanket distribution among the cold affected people.
